Senior guard Travis Releford scored 19 points, hitting 5 of 6 3-pointers, and forward Perry Ellis added 11 points and 10 rebounds as the host Jayhawks breezed to their 10th straight victory.

Kansas (11-1), which shot 63 percent from the field and had 25 assists, including a career-high 12 by sophomore Naadir Tharpe, extended its win streak at Allen Fieldhouse to 29 straight games, the second-longest active home winning streak in the nation behind Syracuse's 31.

The hot-shooting Jayhawks took control early, hitting six of their first eight 3-point tries while taking a 34-13 lead en route to a 53-26 halftime advantage. Kansas shot 69 percent from the field in the half, including 66.7 percent (8-for-12) from 3-point range, while scoring its most points in a half this season.

Senior point guard Elijah Johnson added 12 points and center Jeff Withey had 11 points and four blocks for Kansas, which finished with 15 3-pointers in 24 attempts (62.5 percent), just one off the school record for treys of 16 set against Baylor in 2005.

Forward Stephen Lumpkins had 16 points and guard John Schoof added 14 for American (4-9), which dropped its fourth straight.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kansas has won 62 straight non-conference games at Allen Fieldhouse. ... Johnson, who hadn't sank a 3-pointer in his two previous games, had three in four attempts in the first half and finished with four in five attempts in the game. ... Kansas started 11-1 for the third time in the last four seasons.
