Ryan Anderson scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half as the Eagles held off the visiting Friars.

Olivier Hanlan added 19 points for Boston College (6-5), which has won three straight games for the first time this season.

Bryce Cotton scored a game-high 33 points and went 7-for-14 from 3-point range for Providence (8-3), which saw its six-game winning streak come to an end.

The contest was knotted at 36-36 at the half and neither school led by more than four points until the final seconds. Boston College grabbed a 59-56 lead on Patrick Heckmann’s 3-pointer with 5:43 and never trailed again.

Cotton’s 3-pointer with 2:29 left pulled the Friars within 64-63, but they would not make another field goal until one second remained. Anderson’s layup with 23 seconds left made it a 69-65 gap and the Eagles clinched it at the free throw line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Providence has lost its last three trips to Chestnut Hill. The schools have met at least once every season since the 1953-54 campaign. … Kadeem Batts was the only other player to reach double figures with 14 points for the Friars. … Boston College has not won four in a row since the 2010-11 season. The Eagles will go for a fourth straight win when they host Holy Cross next Saturday.
