Eric Ferguson added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (4-5), who had just one previous win over an NCAA Division I opponent this season and had won just one non-conference road game since 2006.

Erick Green scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Jarell Eddie added 21 points and eight rebounds for the Hokies (8-2), who lost at home for the first time in seven contests this season. Virginia Tech has dropped two of three since a 7-0 start.

The Hokies shot just 29 percent (9-for-31) in the first half, including 0-for-9 from 3-point range, and trailed 35-27 at halftime. They heated up after the break and pulled within 74-71 on Eddie's 3-pointer with 54 seconds left. Cameron Baskerville hit four free throws down the stretch to finish with 12 points.

Georgia Southern scored the game's first eight points - six of them from Baskerville - and never trailed. Virginia Tech got within 27-25 with 2:11 left in the half, but the Eagles reeled off a 15-2 run bridging halftime to take control.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Georgia Southern has beaten only two current ACC schools in its history - Georgia Tech and Florida State - but has not defeated either since it joined the league. … Virginia Tech had won all five previous meetings. … Green has scored 20 or more points in every game this season and has made 54 of his last 55 free throws.
