Otto Porter collected 14 points and seven rebounds and Nate Lubick added 13 and six as the Hoyas cruised past the Longhorns in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.

Markel Starks scored 11 points for Georgetown (6-1), which has held its last two opponents under 33 percent shooting.

Sheldon McClellan scored 12 points and Cameron Ridley added 11 for Texas (5-3), which shot 28.6 percent from the field and committed 20 turnovers.

The Longhorns had more turnovers (11) than field goals (eight) in the first half and had two different scoring droughts of 3:59 or more in the period as the Hoyas grabbed an early lead. Back-to-back layups by Lubick and a 3-pointer from D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera pushed the lead to 26-9 with 6:29 left in the first and Georgetown would take a 30-17 lead into the break.

McClellan’s 3-pointer at the 16:05 mark of the second cut it back to single digits at 32-24, but the Hoyas would not let it get any closer. Texas did not make another field goal until Ridley’s dunk with 6:33 left as Georgetown pulled away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: This marked the first meeting between the schools since Jan. 8, 1972, when the Longhorns claimed a 78-70 victory. … Texas freshman G Javan Felix went 1-of-10 from the field and was one of five players with more turnovers than field goals for the Longhorns. … The two schools combined to go 6-for-31 from 3-point range.
