Seton Hall 68, NJIT 59: Fuquan Edwin had 22 points and 10 rebounds as the host Pirates held off a second-half comeback to defeat their in-state rival.

Kyle Smyth scored 13 points off the bench and dashed the Highlanders' upset hopes with a four-point play that gave Seton Hall (6-2) a 59-51 lead with 1:40 to play.

Center Gene Teague added 12 points and Aaron Cosby scored 10 for the Pirates, who led by as many as 14 points in the first half and were ahead by double digits until New Jersey Tech rallied midway through the second half.

Chris Flores scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half to ignite the comeback for NJIT (4-4), which used a 9-0 spurt to cut the lead to 44-42 with just over 9 1/2 minutes left and was within 55-51 on Flores' fifth 3-pointer with 2:07 left.

Smyth squelched the rally when he buried his fourth 3-pointer of the game and was fouled to double the lead as the Pirates held on for the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Seton Hall hurt itself at the free-throw line, converting only 17 of 28 attempts in improving to 4-0 all-time against the Highlanders. ... NJIT fell to 0-3 against Big East opponents this season, with the losses coming by a combined 18 points. ... Edwin scored 18 points in the first half, missing only one shot and hitting all three 3-point attempts in the first half, but his teammates were a combined 4-of-20 overall and 1-of-12 from long distance in the first 20 minutes.
