Notre Dame 65, George Washington 48:
Senior center Garrick Sherman came off the bench to score 18 points and grab seven rebounds as the host Fighting Irish cruised past the Colonials in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Junior guard Jerian Grant added 13 points, including 12 in the first half when Notre Dame (4-1) jumped out to an early 13-point lead en route to a 32-21 halftime advantage.

The Irish, who held the Colonials to just 32.8 percent shooting, methodically built their lead to 56-37 on a three-point play by swingman Pat Connaughton with 7:29 to go and were never really threatened the rest of the way.

Sherman, a 6-10 transfer from Michigan State, connected on 8 of 10 field goal attempts. Forward Jack Cooley added eight points and eight rebounds for the Irish.

Senior forward Isaiah Armwood, a transfer from Villanova, led George Washington (1-2) with 12 points and five rebounds.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Notre Dame improved to 43-0 at home in the month of November under head coach Mike Brey. ... Brey played his senior season (1981-82) at George Washington, where he was named team captain and team MVP.. ...The win snapped a two-game losing streak against Atlantic-10 Conference schools for the Irish who lost to Saint Joseph's, 79-70, in overtime in the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Friday. Notre Dame, which improved to 110-52 all-time against current A-10 teams, also fell to Xavier, 67-63, in the second round of last season's NCAA Tournament.
