Connecticut 67, Vermont 49:
Shabazz Napier scored 13 points and freshman Omar Calhoun added 12 as the host Huskies stayed unbeaten under new coach Kevin Ollie.

R.J. Evans chipped in 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting off the bench and Ryan Boatright handed out seven assists for Connecticut (2-0), which was playing its first home opener without legendary coach Jim Calhoun. Ollie, who took over for his mentor in September, earned his first win in Germany on Friday.

Luke Apfeld recorded nine points and eight rebounds and Brian Voelkel chipped in eight points, five rebounds and four assists for the Catamounts (1-1), who struggled to 30 percent shooting.

Vermont took a 10-9 lead early in the first half but went the next 10:57 without a field goal as the Huskies turned it to 30-19 in their advantage. Omar Calhoun, who failed to record a field goal in his debut, hit a pair of 3-pointers and totaled nine points during the spurt.

The Catamounts endured a 6:39 field goal drought in the second half as UConn put the game away. Napier scored six straight points and DeAndre Daniels made a transition dunk with 9:39 left that spread the lead out to 54-34.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The last two seasons in which the Huskies defeated Vermont, they went on to win the national championship (2004 and 2011) … After going 118-4 against non-conference New England opponents in home games under Jim Calhoun, Connecticut is off to a 1-0 start under Ollie. … The Catamounts shot just 3-of-18 from beyond the arc and turned the ball over 15 times.
