Boston College 84, Florida International 70: Sophomore Ryan Anderson set career highs with 29 points and 17 rebounds as the host Eagles held off a second-half charge from the Golden Panthers to win their 10th consecutive season opener.

Dennis Clifford, Olivier Hanlan and Patrick Heckmann poured in 12 points apiece for Boston College (1-0), which won in its first-ever meeting with Florida International (0-1) despite a 2-for-17 effort beyond the arc.

The Eagles held a commanding 49-33 advantage at the break behind Anderson’s 17-point, 10-rebound first half, but Jerome Frink scored 11 of his 22 points over the first 8:30 of the second half. The Golden Panthers eventually tied the game at 65-65 on a 3-pointer by Malik Smith with 8:46 remaining.

However, Florida International went cold, committing four turnovers and missing its next four shots over the next 5:30. Boston College pulled away with a 12-0 run before Frink ended the Golden Panthers’ cold spell with a jumper with 3:16 left.

Smith drained four 3-pointers as part of his 16 points and Frink added 10 rebounds in his debut for Florida International, which fell to 3-32 all-time against the ACC.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Anderson posted his sixth career double-double. … Florida International scored just five points over the final 8:46 of the game. … Eight of Anderson’s 17 rebounds were on the offensive end, leading to a 21-9 edge in second-chance points.
