Stanford 76, Cleveland State 65: Aaron Bright scored 17 points and Stanford dominated the visiting Vikings in the second half to win a first-round NIT game.

Third-seeded Stanford (22-11) advances to face the winner of Wednesday’s game between Mississippi and Illinois State.

Trailing by one at halftime, Stanford led by as many as 20 late in the second half against sixth-seeded Cleveland State (22-11), which committed 21 turnovers and shot 37 percent (25 of 67) from the field.

Anthony Brown and Josh Owens had 15 points apiece for Stanford, which was outrebounded 26-13 in the first half. Brown grabbed a career-high 12 boards and the Cardinal outrebounded the Vikings 18-14 in the second half.

The Vikings’ top three scorers – Jeremy Montgomery, Trey Harmon, and D’Aundray Brown – scored a combined 21 points on 6-of-26 shooting. Harmon, who entered the game averaging 12.9 points, left the game early in the second half with a knee injury.

Stanford, which finished seventh in the Pac-12, was 24 of 39 (61.5 percent) from the foul line, while Cleveland State made just seven of its 13 attempts.

Montgomery had a team-high 15 points and Tim Kamczyc added 13 for Cleveland State, which finished second in the Horizon League.

Game Notebook: Stanford’s 22 wins are the school’s most since finishing 28-8 in 2007-08. ... Cleveland State dropped to 11-5 on the road. ... The Vikings lost seven of their last nine games. ... Owens broke out of a mini-slump after scoring a total of 12 points in his past three games.
