Florida State 82, Miami 71: Michael Snaer scored 20 points and the No. 17 Seminoles hit big shots down the stretch to survive a scare from the short-handed Hurricanes in the ACC quarterfinals.

Ian Miller scored 18 points and Bernard James added 14 points and seven rebounds for the third-seeded Seminoles (22-9), who advance to face No. 2 seed Duke in Saturday’s semifinals.

Florida State led 36-27 at intermission and maintained a slim lead throughout the second half. The teams traded big shots over the final five minutes, and Kenny Kadji’s jumper pulled the sixth-seeded Hurricanes to within 62-59 with just under four minutes left.

The Seminoles kept Miami at bay, however. Miller responded with a jumper that sparked an 8-0 run that pushed the lead to 70-59 with 2:05 to play. A parade to the free throw-line finished a well-played game.

Malcom Grant scored 19 points and freshman Shane Larkin added 16 for Miami.

The Hurricanes were hoping to boost their NCAA tournament resume by upsetting Florida State for the second time in two weeks, but found themselves behind the eight-ball before the game started.

Junior guard Durand Scott, Miami’s leading scorer, was ruled ineligible by the NCAA hours prior to tip-off for receiving improper benefits. It was a similar situation to the home victory over Florida State on Feb. 26, when junior center Reggie Johnson was ruled ineligible for the same reason.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Larkin scored seven of the Hurricanes’ first nine points. … Johnson and Scott’s eligibility issues stem from the violations committed by jailed Ponzi scheme artist and former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro.
