California 77, Stanford 71: Jorge Gutierrez scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half and recorded seven assists as the Golden Bears defeated the Cardinal in the Pac-12 quarterfinals at Los Angeles.

Harper Kamp scored 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, and Justin Cobbs added 15 points as second-seeded California (24-8) snapped a two-game losing skid.

Andrew Zimmerman scored a career-best 22 points, and Chasson Randle tallied 19 points for seventh-seeded Stanford (21-11).

Allen Crabbe’s basket with 4:39 to play snapped a 62-62 tie to begin an 11-2 California spurt. Gutierrez’s three-point play with 2:31 left finished the flurry.

California opened the second half with a 15-3 run to erase a seven-point halftime deficit. A basket by Gutierrez tied the score at 33, and Crabbe culminated the surge with a 3-pointer to give the Golden Bears a five-point advantage with 15:59 to play.

Stanford tied the score at 56 on two free throws by Randle with 8:09 remaining.

Crabbe scored 11 points and David Kravish added 10 points for the Golden Bears.

Zimmerman had nine first-half points and the Cardinal forced 14 turnovers en route to a 30-23 halftime advantage. The Golden Bears committed just three turnovers in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: California scored 54 points and shot 57.7 percent from the field in the second half … Randle had just five first-half points after setting a tournament record with 27 one day earlier against Arizona State … Zimmerman’s previous career-high was 14 points.
