Senior captain Zach Novak scored a career-high 22 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 20 as No. 15 Michigan cruised past UCLA, 79-63, in the third-place game at the EA Sports Maui Invitatiuonal on Wednesday.

Jon Horford added a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds for the Wolverines (5-1), who fell to No. 6 Duke in the semifinal on Tuesday. Michigan shot 62 percent (29-of-47) on Wednesday, led by Novack’s 7-of-8.

The Bruins (1-4), who have yet to beat a Division-I opponent this season, fell to 1-4 for the first time since 1987.

UCLA looked like it would give Michigan a game early in the second half, drawing within 48-43 on Joshua Smith’s layup with 13:03 left. The Wolverines responded with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes, getting a combined 12 points from Hardaway and Novak during the burst.

Novack’s 3-pointer, his fourth of the game, with 2:27 left made it 75-55 and ended the Bruins’ hopes of a dramatic comeback.

Travis Wear scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Bruins.
