Henry Sims scored five of his career-high 24 points in the extra period as Georgetown edged No. 8 Memphis 91-88 in overtime in the fifth-place game at the Maui Invitational Tournament on Wednesday.

One game after scoring a career-high 28 points in the Hoyas’ rout of Chaminade, Jason Clark added 26 for the Hoyas (4-1), who have won three straight against the Tigers (2-2).

These two teams will meet again on Dec. 22 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Georgetown established an early 10-point advantage, but once Memphis rallied to take the lead on a 3-pointer at the 15:28 mark of the second half, neither team could build more than a three-point cushion as the lead switched hands nine times in the second half.

The Tigers squandered multiple chances to stretch a 78-76 lead in the final minute of regulation with two missed 3-pointers and a turnover on one possession, allowing Georgetown to tie the game on a tip-in from Greg Whittington to force the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Georgetown built a five-point advantage as Sims scored five of the Hoyas’ first eight points, but Memphis rallied with six straight points to re-take the lead.

Clark answered with a 3-pointer with 51 seconds left to give Georgetown the lead for good, eventually forcing Antonio Barton into a difficult 3-point attempt in the closing seconds to preserve the victory.

Will Barton scored 22 points to pace the Tigers, who played their second overtime game in as many days.
