MICHIGAN STATE 76, PURDUE 62: Draymond Green scored 20 points and No. 8 Michigan State took over first place in the Big Ten Conference with its fifth straight win.

Trailing 38-35 at halftime, the Spartans (22-5, 11-3 Big Ten) scored the first 10 points after halftime and held Purdue (17-10, 7-7 Big Ten) scoreless the first 6:06 of the second half.

Green, who notched his Big Ten-leading 15th double-double, scored 14 points after halftime, including eight straight when Michigan State took control on both ends. Green added 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Purdue was playing without juniors D.J. Byrd, the team's second leading scorer in Big Ten play, and swingman Kelsey Barlow, the team's top defender. Both were involved in an incident at a West Lafayette bar last week that resulted in Byrd getting a one-game suspension and Barlow being kicked off the team.

Purdue, which was led by Robbie Hummel's 24 points and career-high 15 rebounds, missed 23 of its first 24 shots in the second half and did not convert a two-point basket until six minutes remained in the game.

Austin Thornton scored 17 points for the Spartans, and Branden Dawson registered a double-double, highlighted by a one-handed, windmill dunk in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: MSU's Green now has five games this season when he has scored at least 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and handed out five assists … Lewis Jackson added 15 and Ryne Smith 10 as the three Purdue seniors, along with Hummel, combined for 49 of Purdue's points.
