NO. 12 FLORIDA 61, ALABAMA 52: Patric Young scored 19 points and the Gators rebounded from consecutive losses, scoring the first 16 points of the second half to win at undermanned Alabama.

Florida (20-6, 8-3 SEC) lost to Kentucky and Tennessee last week, and found itself down three points late in the first half and tied 26-26 at halftime.

Young, hampered by an injured ankle, scored eight points during the first five minutes of the second half and finished 9-for-12 from the field. Kenny Boynton’s layup with 14:57 to go capped the 16-0 surge and gave the Gators a 42-26 lead.

Erik Murphy scored 14 points with four steals for the Gators, hitting four 3-pointers. Bradley Beal also scored 14 and had a team-high eight rebounds.

Alabama (16-9, 5-6 SEC), playing without suspended starters JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell, went 11:43 without scoring in losing for the sixth time in nine games. Andrew Steele, reinstated following a one-game suspension, led the Crimson Tide with 11 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Alabama also reinstated Trevor Releford, who along with Green and Steele missed Saturday’s loss at LSU. Mitchell served the third game of a suspension Tuesday. … Releford, who led the SEC in free-throw shooting at 85.7 percent entering the game, finished 1-for-4 from the line. … Florida played without reserve forward Will Yeguete (concussion) and reserve guard Mike Rosario (hip). … The victory moves the second-place Gators within three games of idle Kentucky in the SEC.
