BOXSCORE | RECAP
Syracuse 52, Louisville 51
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, February 13, 2012
Where: KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, Kentucky
Officials: # Jim Burr, # Les Jones, # Mike Stuart
Attendance: 22738

NO. 2 SYRACUSE 52, NO. 18 LOUISVILLE 51: C.J. Fair scored 13 points, including the go-ahead layup with just over two minutes left, and No. 2 Syracuse ended a seven-game losing streak to host Louisville despite its worst offensive game of the season.

Fab Melo was the only other player in double figures with 11 points for Syracuse (26-1, 13-1 Big East), which scored 40 of its 52 points in the paint and finished just 1 of 17 from beyond the arc. The Orange have won six straight since suffering thier lone loss to Notre Dame on Jan. 21.

It was Jim Boeheim’s 882nd career win and his first over former assistant Rick Pitino since 2005-06.

Louisville (20-6, 8-5) had a chance to take the lead late, but Peyton Siva's ill-advised pass was intercepted by Dion Waiters. The Cardinals had another chance after Waiters intentionally missed the front end of a 1-and-1, but Louisville lost the ball in a scramble at half court as the buzzer sounded.

The Orange led by eight points with just over seven minutes left, before Louisville surged ahead with a 15-2 spurt that sent the crowd of 22,738 - the largest in the two-year history of the KFC Yum! Center - into a frenzy.

Freshman Chane Behanan’s tip in gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the game at 51-46, but Syracuse responded. After Melo’s free throws cut the lead to 51-50, Waiters found Fair on a backdoor cut with 2:12 to play. The layup gave Syracuse the lead for good.

Behanan had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals, who had their six-game winning streak snapped.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Siva hit just his 10th 3-pointer of the season early in the first half. He entered shooting a mere 18.4 percent from beyond the arc. … As part of Louisville’s planned “White Out,” Pitino busted out his infamous all-white suit.
