MICHIGAN STATE 64, MICHIGAN 54:
Draymond Green delivered on his guarantee. Green, Michigan State’s senior forward, had a game-high 14 points and 16 rebounds as the 10th-ranked Spartans defeated No. 22 Michigan 64-54 at the Breslin Center.

The win helped the Spartans (18-5, 7-3 Big Ten) pull within a game of Big Ten Conference leader Ohio State. Michigan (17-7, 7-4 Big Ten), meanwhile, fell into a tie for third with Wisconsin.

After Michigan State suffered a 42-41 loss at Illinois on Tuesday, Green vowed to deliver a win in his final game against the rival Wolverines, who had won three straight in the series coming in.

In his first six games against Michigan, Green averaged just six points and five rebounds. But he scored six points in the first half alone, as Michigan State took a 30-22 lead at the half.

Green’s rebound total was more than Michigan’s entire team. The Wolverines finished with just 15 rebounds, and were dominated on the glass by the Spartans, who finished with 39 — including 12 on the offensive end.

Michigan State opened the second half with a 12-4 run — capped off by Derrick Nix’s jumper — to stretch the lead to 42-26 with 13:02 left. Michigan never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

Zack Novak had a team-high 14 points for Michigan, which has alternated wins and losses over its last eight games. Trey Burke and Jordan Morgan each added 11.

Keith Appling and Branden Dawson each finished with 10 points for the Spartans, who beat the Wolverines at home by double digits for the ninth time in their last 10 games.
