Mike Scott scored 18 points and Joe Harris and Sammy Zeglinski added 12 apiece as No. 21 Virginia held off host North Carolina State 61-60 on Saturday.

The Cavaliers (17-3, 4-2 ACC) shot 44.2 percent and are 14-0 this season when shooting better than 40 percent from the field. Virginia has won 16 straight games dating back to last season when connecting for 40 percent or higher.

C.J. Leslie led the Wolfpack (15-7, 4-3 ACC) with 17 points and Richard Howell contributed his eighth double-double with a career-high 18 rebounds and 11 points.

After pulling to within 61-60 with 45 seconds to play on Scott Wood's 3-pointer, the Wolfpack had a chance to win, but Lorenzo Brown missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Virginia has defeated N.C. State four straight times and seven of the last nine. The Wolfpack, though, hold an 80-58 edge all-time.

Wood was held without a free throw for the second straight game, leaving him unable to extend his ACC record of 58 straight attempts. The NCAA record stands at 85, set by Butler’s Darnell Archey in 2003.
