When: 2:00 PM ET, Saturday, January 28, 2012
Where: James H. Hilton Coliseum, Ames, Iowa
Officials: # Darron George, # Garry Maxwell, # Steve Olson

Royce White had a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds as Iowa State pulled off a 72-64 upset over No. 5 Kansas at Hilton Coliseum.

Melvin Ejim finished with 15 points and eight rebounds and Scott Christopherson added 14 for the Cyclones (15-6, 5-3 Big 12), who won for the third time in their last four games and moved into fourth place in the Big 12.

Kansas (17-4, 7-1 Big 12) entered the day as the conference’s lone unbeaten team and had a two-game lead in the standings. Now, after losing in Ames for the first time in seven years, the Jayhawks’ advantage over second-place Baylor and Missouri is just one game.

The Jayhawks trailed 37-34 at halftime but opened the second half with an 11-2 run — capped off by Elijah Johnson’s 3-pointer — to take a 45-39 lead with 16:55 left. But the Cyclones, behind White — who had 14 points in the second half — regained the lead at 50-49 five minutes later.

From there, Iowa State extended its lead to as many as eight before converting seven-of-eight free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.

All five Kansas starters finished with 10 or more points, led by Tyshawn Taylor, who had 16 points and a game-high 10 assists. Thomas Robinson had 13 points, and Johnson, Travis Releford and Jeff Withey each added 10.

Iowa State, which lost to Kansas 82-73 in Lawrence in the first meeting, controlled the glass from start to finish. The Cyclones outrebounded the Jayhawks 34-19 and won despite committing 19 turnovers, five more than Kansas.
