Tyler Zeller scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in leading No. 8 North Carolina to its 11th straight victory over Atlantic Coast Conference rival North Carolina State, 74-55 in Chapel Hill Thursday.

Harrison Barnes scored 15 points and Kendall Marshall had nine points and 10 assists for North Carolina (17-3, 4-1 ACC), which extended the nation’s third-longest home winning streak to 30 games.

Lorenzo Brown scored 12 points for North Carolina State (15-6, 4-2). The only highlight for the Wolfpack came when Brown banked home a three-quarter court heave at the end of the first half.

The Tar Heels, meanwhile, have bounced back from a 33-point loss to Florida State with a pair of decisive victories. The latest win came one week after North Carolina lost guard Dexter Strickland – its best perimeter defender – to a torn ACL in an 82-68 victory over Virginia Tech.

The defense looked no worse for the wear, as it held North Carolina State to 35 percent shooting (21 of 59).

The offense was pretty good, too. Zeller had a double-double in the first half with 13 points and 10 rebounds to help North Carolina to a 37-23 lead. The Tar Heels broke it open with a 20-8 run that was capped by Zeller’s two-handed jam in transition.

North Carolina then opened the second half on a 12-5 run and led by as many as 29 points.

The Wolfpack was off to its best league start since 2003-04 under first-year coach Mark Gottfried, but suffered another lopsided loss to the Tar Heels. North Carolina State has lost by an average of 15.9 points during the 11 straight defeats at the hands of North Carolina.
