BOXSCORE | RECAP

Where: Jack Breslin Student Events Center, East Lansing, Michigan
Officials: # Mike Eades, # John Higgins, # Mike Sanzere

Draymond Green had eight points, a game-high 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead No. 9 Michigan State to an 83-58 rout over travel-troubled Purdue on Saturday at Breslin Center.

Branden Dawson finished with a career-high 14 points and Derrick Nix added 12 for the Spartans (16-4, 5-2 Big Ten), who snapped a two-game losing streak and avoided dropping their third straight home game against the Boilermakers.

Purdue (14-6, 4-3 Big Ten) didn’t arrive to East Lansing until about 9:30 a.m. — roughly 2 ½ hours prior to tipoff — after the team’s plane was unable to take off late Friday night due to inclement weather. The Boilermakers were then forced to bus 276 miles through the night from West Lafayette, Ind.

Fatigue seemed to be a factor for Purdue, which shot a season-worst 29 percent from the field, including a 3-of-20 effort from 3-point range.

Robbie Hummel, the team’s leading scorer, went 0-for-11 and finished with just two points, tying a career low. It marked the first time in Hummel’s career that he’s been held without a field goal.

Lewis Jackson and John Hart each finished with 10 points, the lone Boilermakers to reach double figures.

Michigan State shook off a sloppy start to take a 31-24 halftime lead, and then opened the second half with a huge scoring burst. The Spartans, led by a pair of Austin Thornton 3-pointers, went on a 24-8 run to take a 55-32 lead with 10:18 left.

The lead swelled to as many as 30 points late.

Thornton finished with 11 points and Keith Appling had 10 points and five assists for the Spartans, who improved to 13-0 at home this year.
