Hollis Thompson scored 20 points to lead Georgetown to a 69-49 win over St. John’s at Madison Square Garden.

Georgetown (14-3) snapped a two-game losing skid and handed St. John’s (8-9) its fourth loss in the past five games.

Thompson scored all his points in the second half, showing his versatility with an inside-out effort. The junior forward knocked down five 3-pointers while also grinding for five rebounds.

Johnnies guard Moe Harkless kept the Red Storm close in the second half, scoring 21 points and pulling in 11 rebounds before fouling out with over five minutes remaining the game. That left a very thin St. John’s squad digging into its bench, which produced just seven points.

The Johnnies jumped out to a 13-5 lead to start the game but the Hoyas countered with a 20-6 run to close the first half. Georgetown hit just two of its first 12 shots, but finished going 25 for 57 from the field in the win.

Otto Porter gave the Hoyas some much need life off their bench, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Sir'Dominic Pointer added 12 points for the Red Storm. St. John’s was cold from outside, shooting 0 for 10 from beyond the arc and was bothered by the Hoyas' zone defense, shooting just 33 percent from the floor.

St. John’s is still without head coach Steve Lavin, who is recovering from prostate cancer surgery. Assistant Mike Dunlap has taken over the head coaching role.
