BOXSCORE | RECAP
Kentucky 65, Tennessee 62
When: 12:00 PM ET, Saturday, January 14, 2012
Where: Thompson-Boling Arena, Knoxville, Tennessee
Officials: # Roger Ayers, # Anthony Jordan, # Mike Nance
Attendance: 21678

Kentucky held Tennessee scoreless for more than six minutes late in the second half and rallied rallying for a 65-62 win over the Volunteers Saturday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Freshmen Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist combined for 35 points, more than half of the No. 2 Wildcats’ total output.

Kidd-Gilchrist appeared to twist his knee late in the game as he slipped and fell, but went right back on the court and hit a 3-pointer to stake the Wildcats (17-1, 3-0 SEC) to a 58-54 lead with less than five to play. That shot sparked an 8-0 run by Kentucky, which took a 62-54 lead into the final minute.
Davis scored 18 points and Kidd-Gilchrist 17, while Terrence Jones added 10 points before fouling out for just the second time in his career.

Tennessee (8-9, 1-2 SEC), playing less than 48 hours after a close road loss at Mississippi State, got fatigued in the home stretch. After tying the game at 54-54 on Kenny Hall’s layup, the Vols went scoreless for the next 6:20, only breaking the drought on Skylar McBee’s 3-pointer with 39 seconds to go.

Cam Tatum scored 16 points and Jeronne Maymon had 15 to pace the Vols. Freshman Jarnell Stokes contributed nine points, four rebounds and an assist in his collegiate debut a week after his 18th birthday. Stokes enrolled at Tennessee in January after being declared ineligible to play his senior year of high-school basketball. He was just cleared by the SEC on Thursday.
