Davante Gardner posted career highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds and Darius Johnson-Odom scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half as No. 24 Marquette opened a three-game homestand by pulling away for an 83-64 victory over St. John's on Wednesday.

Facing a 34-31 deficit just seconds into the second half, the Golden Eagles (13-4, 2-2 Big East) put together a 15-4 run that put them ahead to stay, 46-38, with 14:57 remaining. Johnson-Odom scored seven points during the decisive surge.

Marquette shot a blistering 67.7 percent (21-for-31) in the second half, outscored the Red Storm by a 56-34 margin in the paint and finished the night with 23 assists on its 33 field goals overall.

Jae Crowder had 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Golden Eagles. God'sgift Achiuwa led St. John's (8-8, 2-3) with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Moe Harkless added 17 points.
