Alabama (12-3) quickly took back control of the game, getting five points from Andrew Steele and a dunk from JaMychal Green to go up 59-50 and force a time out by Georgia coach Mark Fox. The Crimson Tide then went on a 14-2 run capped by Mitchell's three-point play with five minutes left in the game. Mitchell’s dunk gave Alabama its largest lead at 72-55.

The freshman guard had 17 points and knocked down all three of his 3-point attempts, while Mitchell added a pair of 3s, including a long ball with 26 seconds left that gave Alabama its largest lead of the half at 38-23.

Georgia freshman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who led all scorers with 22 points, tried to keep the Bulldogs in it, scoring seven of his 11 first-half points during a late stretch.
