DeShawn Stephens scored a career-high 18 points as No. 25 San Diego State defeated NAIA foe San Diego Christian 83-52 on Thursday for its 54th straight victory over an unranked opponent.

Stephens and Alec Williams (10 points) had eight rebounds apiece, while Garrett Green scored a season-high 14 points, and Jamaal Franklin and Chase Tapley each added 11.

San Diego State’s aggressive man-to-man defense continually forced the Hawks to use the entire shot clock to find an open shot. The Aztecs forced 15 turnovers, outscored the Hawks 19-3 off turnovers and held San Diego Christian to 40.4 shooting. San Diego State shot 53.8 percent.

San Diego State jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the first six minutes before outscoring San Diego Christian 34-16 to lead 44-26 at the half. It marked the fourth time this season San Diego State (13-2) has not trailed in a game.

Ryan Rubino led San Diego Christian (4-7) with 13 points.
