BOXSCORE | RECAP
West Virginia 85, Rutgers 64
When: 7:00 PM ET, Wednesday, January 4, 2012
Where: Louis Brown Athletic Center, Piscataway, New Jersey
Officials: # John Cahill, # Les Jones, # Gary Prager
Attendance: 4815

Darryl Bryant had a game-high 29 points, Kevin Jones earned his 10th double-double and West Virginia bounced back from its worst outing with one of its best in an 85-64 rout at Rutgers on Wednesday.

Jones collected 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Mountaineers (11-4, 2-1 Big East) won their seventh straight over the Scarlet Knights. Eli Carter's 19 points led Rutgers (8-7, 0-2).

Deniz Kilicli added 16 points and freshmen Aaron Brown and Jabarie Hinds had 11 apiece for West Virginia, which had failed to score in the last 6:42 of Friday's 67-48 loss at Seton Hall.

The Mountaineers topped that output in the first half against Rutgers, shooting 58 percent from the floor and forcing 13 turnovers as they rolled to a 51-26 halftime lead.

They also went an uncharacteristic 15-for-18 at the foul line – WVU entered hitting just 62 percent – during a chippy opening half that saw 30 fouls and 41 free throws. The Scarlet Knights, however, only sank 12 of their 23 attempts to go with 6-for-17 field-goal shooting.

Brown scored nine of his points during West Virginia's 33-9 blitz after they trailed 10-9 early.

The halftime cushion helped the Mountaineers through a cold spell to start the second half, as Rutgers tallied the first 10 points while it took West Virginia 5:20 to make a basket. The Knights could not pull closer than within 15, though.
