Khalif Wyatt had a team-high 22 points and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson added 15 points and six rebounds as Temple defeated No. 3 Duke 78-73 Wednesday.

Three other players scored in double figures for the Owls (10-3), who became the first Atlantic 10 team to knock off Duke since Jan. 25, 1996, the last time Temple beat the ACC powerhouse.

The Blue Devils (12-2) entered on an 18-game win streak against A-10 opponents and had won nine straight against Temple. But the Owls, behind Wyatt’s 8-of-12 shooting effort, took a 35-33 lead into halftime and led by as many as 10 at 55-45 after the junior guard buried a 3-pointer with 9:39 left.

Duke pulled within 60-57 after Miles Plumlee made 1-of-2 free throws, but the Owls countered with back-to-back 3-pointers – both by Wyatt – to extend the lead back to nine with 3:37 left.

Temple, which shot 59 percent, defeated a top-10 opponent for the fourth time in as many years. The Owls defeated No. 8 Tennessee in 2008, No. 3 Villanova in 2009 and No. 9 Georgetown in 2010.

Mason Plumlee had 16 points and 11 rebounds and his brother, Miles, added a team-high 17 points for the Blue Devils, who failed to make a field goal during separate 5-minute and 3-minute second-half droughts.

Austin Rivers, a freshman guard, finished with 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting for Duke, which will open ACC play Saturday at Georgia Tech.

Anthony Lee had 13 points, five rebounds and three blocks and Ramone Moore added 11 points for the Owls, who open Atlantic 10 play against Dayton Saturday.
