BOXSCORE | RECAP
Colorado 56, Texas Southern 51
When: 9:00 PM ET, Thursday, December 22, 2011
Where: Coors Events Center, Boulder, Colorado
Officials: # Deidre Carr, # Gregory Nixon, # Quinton Reese
Attendance: 4621

Spencer Dinwiddie scored 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and Colorado survived a scare from visiting Texas Southern in a 56-51 victory in Boulder.

Carlon Brown and Andre Roberson added 11 points apiece for the Buffaloes (7-4), who won consecutive games for just the second time this season and the first since a three-game win streak Nov. 20-28. Colorado improved to 5-1 at home on the season and plays its next four games in Boulder as well.

Roberson also posted a game-high 16 rebounds for the Buffs, bringing his season total to a Pac-12-best 127. The double-double performance was the seventh of the season for the Colorado sophomore.

Omar Strong led the way with 23 points, including a 7-of-9 showing from 3-point range, for the Tigers (1-9), who have now dropped eight consecutive games. Texas Southern managed to pull to within three with 27.7 seconds to play before the Buffaloes iced the game from the free-throw line. The tight finish came in stark contrast to the Tigers’ previous eight losses, in which they were outscored on average by nearly 24 points. Texas Southern has two games remaining on its 10-game road trip and won’t return home until it hosts Alcorn State on Jan. 3.

Colorado led by as much as 23, and held a 16-point lead at halftime before Texas Southern outscored the Buffs 35-24 in the final 20 minutes.

There was some doubt as to whether or not this game would actually be played as scheduled, as more than a foot of snow in the Boulder area had Texas Southern’s arrival in question. The Tigers arrived safely, however, and nearly managed leave town with their first win in more than a month.

The Buffaloes host New Orleans on Wednesday before opening Pac-12 play at home against Utah on New Year’s Eve.
