Freshman Gary Browne hit an off-balance 3-pointer to get West Virginia into overtime, where the Mountaineers withstood Missouri State 70-68 to deliver coach Bob Huggins his 700th career win Thursday in the 11th Annual Las Vegas Classic.

West Virginia (9-2) won its fifth straight as Nathan Scheer drove for an open layup that rimmed out at the buzzer, ending a three-game win streak for the Bears (7-4).

Huggins is 700-255 overall, including 110-44 at his alma mater. He ranks fourth among active coaches in victories, behind Mike Krzyzewski and Big East colleagues Jim Boeheim and Jim Calhoun.

The game was part of round-robin action at the Orleans Arena. The Mountaineers take on No. 7 Baylor on Friday, and the Bears face Saint Mary's.

Browne, who finished with 13 points, nearly turned the ball over but regained control of it and sank a 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left to send the game into overtime. Kevin Jones earned his seventh double-double this season with 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Darryl Bryant added 15 points for West Virginia.

A steal and layup by Scheer with 1:02 remaining in regulation put Missouri State ahead 63-58 before the Mountaineers rallied to force the extra session.

Caleb Patterson led the Bears with 18 points, and Kyle Weems added 15. Michael Bizoukas had six points and 10 assists, but the 42-percent foul shooter missed a pair from the line with Missouri State trailing 69-68.

Before overtime, the Mountaineers hadn't led since the first half.
