Nate Wolters scored a season-high 34 points and added seven assists and South Dakota State hit its first seven 3-point shots en route to a stunning 92-73 romp over host Washington on Sunday.

Griffin Callahan scored 16 points and the Jackrabbits (10-4) jumped out to a 22-point first-half lead while snapping the Huskies’ 32-game non-conference home winning streak.

Tony Wroten scored 23 points and Darnell Gant had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Washington (5-5), which has lost four of its last five games.

South Dakota State made 10-of-16 3-pointers and committed just five turnovers while dominating the sluggish Huskies. The Jackrabbits were 0-3 in previous games against power-conference teams this season before opening the contest with a flourish.

The Jackrabbits answered Washington’s game-opening basket with a 23-5 run that included five 3-point baskets for a 16-point lead just six-plus minutes into the contest.

A short time later, Jordan Dykstra and Chad White hit back-to-back 3-pointers as South Dakota State expanded the lead to 31-12 with 11:22 left in the half. The lead eventually reached 41-19 with 6:32 to go.

Washington tried to battle back from a 18-point halftime deficit and pulled within 59-48 on Gant’s 3-pointer with 13:48 left. But the Jackrabbits responded with a 11-4 run to build their advantage back to 18 points and were never again threatened.

Wolters had 16 first-half points and White tallied 12 points on four 3-pointers as the Jackrabbits hit 8-of-11 first-half 3-point attempts and committed just two turnovers while taking a 51-33 halftime lead.

Washington’s previous nonconference home loss was to Valparaiso during the 2007-08 campaign.
