Perry Jones III had a career-high 28 points and eight rebounds, including a follow-up dunk with 21 seconds left, and No. 7 Baylor came from behind to beat Brigham Young 86-83 on Saturday in Provo, Utah.

Jones III helped the Bears (9-0) overcome a 42-38 halftime deficit to build as much as a nine-point lead in the second half, but watched as the Cougars (8-3) cut it to 84-83 in the final minute.

He knocked knees with BYU’s Brandon Davies, forcing him to leave the game momentarily with just over a minute left, but he returned for Baylor’s crucial possession. A.J. Walton misfired on a 3-pointer, but Jones III was there for the follow-up, catapulting the Bears to just their third 9-0 start in program history.

Brady Heslip knocked down six 3-pointers for 18 points for the Bears (9-0), who have won seven straight non-conference true road games under coach Scott Drew.

Davies notched his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds for BYU, which lost for only the second time in its last 50 games at the Marriott Center.

The Cougars had multiple chances to tie or take the lead late in the game but were held scoreless over the game’s final 1:48.

After Baylor's lackadaisical first half, Jones III came out blazing in the second. His back-to-back-to-back jumpers capped an 11-2 spurt that gave the Bears a 65-64 lead with 10:37 remaining.

Minutes later, Heslip connected on back-to-back 3-pointers — his fifth and six on the day — to build Baylor’s edge to 76-67 with 6:26 left.
