BOXSCORE | RECAP
Kansas 88, Long Beach St. 80
When: 9:00 PM ET, Tuesday, December 6, 2011
Where: Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence, Kansas
Officials: # Rick Crawford, # Terry Davis, # Rick Randall
Attendance: 16300

After nearly blowing a 19-point lead, No. 13 Kansas recovered down the stretch en route to a narrow 88-80 victory over Long Beach State on Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse.

Thomas Robinson had a career-high 26 points and 11 rebounds and Jeff Withey added 13 points, 13 boards and nine blocks to lead the Jayhawks (6-2), who won their 46th straight home game against a non-conference opponent.

Kansas led 34-15 midway through the first half, but Long Beach State (4-4) cut the deficit to 12 by halftime and got as close as 60-56 with 10:54 left on Larry Anderson’s 3-pointer.

Kansas twice stretched the lead to double digits but failed to sustain any long runs, in part because it played sloppily on the offensive end and committed 22 turnovers. However, the 49ers couldn’t get the big shot when they needed it, and never got closer than four the rest of the way.

The Jayhawks, who led 84-80 with 42 seconds left, converted 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal it.

Conner Teahan had 14 points — including four 3-pointers — for Kansas, which is in the middle of a five-game home stretch and will host No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday.

The 49ers, who snapped Pittsburgh’s 58-game non-conference home win streak earlier this year, were led by T.J. Robinson’s 19-point, seven-rebound effort. Three others scored in double figures for the 49ers, whose non-conference schedule includes five games against teams currently ranked in the top 15.

Kansas shot 54 percent from the field and held a 36-24 edge on the boards.
