Tim Hardaway Jr. had a team-high 15 points and Trey Burke added 13 in his first career start as No. 18 Michigan scored the first 21 points and cruised to a 64-47 victory over visiting Towson on Monday.

Towson (0-2) misfired on its first 10 field-goal attempts - some shots didn't come close - and committed seven turnovers. Michigan took advantage, turning the misfires into fast break opportunities that led to easy baskets.

The Wolverines (2-0) took a 37-16 lead at halftime and stretched it to as many as 27 in the second half.

Burke was expected to start in the season opener against Ferris State, but showed up late to a walkthrough before the game and was disciplined by coach John Beilein.

Towson, which gave up 100 points in a season-opening loss to Kansas, defended the Wolverines considerably better, holding them to 46.3 percent shooting. However, the Tigers, led by Robert Nwankwo’s team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds, couldn’t find any offense. They shot 42.9 percent from the field, including 4-of-14 from 3-point range.

Evan Smotrycz, who had a team-high 14 points in Michigan’s season-opening win, finished with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
