BOXSCORE | RECAP
Texas A&M 83, Southern 58
When: 4:00 PM ET, Sunday, November 13, 2011
Where: Reed Arena, College Station, Texas
Officials: # Tom Eades, # Tom O'Neill, # Bret Smith
Attendance: 5503

Ray Turner scored 20 points as No. 19 Texas A&M easily handled Southern, 83-58.

The Aggies (2-0) showed no ill effects playing their first full game without star guard Khris Middleton, who partially tore his right meniscus early in Wednesday’s win over Liberty during 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

The game did mark the debut of new head coach Billy Kennedy, who had been on indefinite leave from the program following his recent diagnosis of an early stage of Parkinson's disease.

Kourtney Roberson added 12 points for Texas A&M, which extended its home winning streak against non-conference opponents to 62 games.

A little-used reserve over his first two college seasons, the 6-9 Turner has stepped in with 40 points over the first two games to help fill the void left by Middleton.

Much like the opener, the Aggies used a swarming defense to hold the Jaguars to 33 percent (8 of 24) from the field and a decided rebounding edge, 20-9, to establish a 25-point halftime lead.

One game after Texas A&M shot 65 percent (34 of 52) from the floor – the fifth-highest mark in school history – the Aggies turned in another solid effort by hitting 56 percent (30 of 53) of their shots against the Jaguars.

Derick Beltran scored 19 points for Southern (1-1), which has not won a non-conference road contest since defeating SMU in the first game of the 2007-08 season.
