Virginia won its season opener for the 14th straight year, easily defeating South Carolina State 75-38 on Sunday.

The Cavaliers (1-0) got balanced scoring throughout its lineup. K.T. Harrell and Joe Harris each hit three 3-point baskets and scored 13 points. They were the only Virginia players in double figures, but six others scored six or more points. All-ACC preseason choice Mike Scott, granted an extra season by the NCAA because of a medical hardship, scored eight points.

South Carolina State (1-1) was led by Omar Sanders with 13 points.

Virginia took a 33-18 halftime and drew little resistance from South Carolina State. The Cavaliers limited the Bulldogs to 25.5 percent from the field and South Carolina State’s Aaron Martin was 0-for-10 shooting.

Virginia improved its record to 17-0 against members of the MEAC and coach Tony Bennett is now 6-0 in season openers.
