NEW ORLEANS – Alex Tyus had 19 points and 17 rebounds to help Florida land a spot in the Elite Eight with an 83-74 overtime victory over Brigham Young on Thursday.

Tyus made 8-of-9 shots and put the Gators (29-7) ahead for good with a basket 19 seconds into overtime. Florida faces Butler on Saturday in the Southeast Region final.

Jimmer Fredette scored 32 points in his final college game for third-seeded Brigham Young (32-5).

Kenny Boynton added 17 points for second-seeded Florida, which received 16 points apiece from Chandler Parsons and Erving Walker.

Boynton scored five straight points in the overtime to give the Gators a 75-70 edge with 3:18 remaining, and the Gators pulled away.

Florida led most of the second half, but the Cougars tied the score at 63 when Fredette capped a 6-0 run by making a 30-foot 3-pointer with 4:58 remaining. Fredette was 11 of 29 from the field and just 3 for 15 from 3-point range while being the only BYU player to score in double figures.

Walker had 14 first-half points for Florida, which led 20-10 less than six minutes into the game. Fredette didn’t score his first points until there was 6:22 left in the half. He got it going late, though, and scored 10 quick points to help the Cougars draw even at halftime.

Kyle Collinsworth had 15 rebounds for BYU, which was 10 of 37 from 3-point range. Florida made 11-of-34 3-pointers.
