Freshman Tim Hardaway Jr. scored a game-high 22 points and Zack Novak hit a go-ahead 3-pointer as Michigan posted a 70-63 victory over host Minnesota on Saturday.

Michigan (18-12, 8-9 Big Ten) rebounded from its heartbreaking 53-52 loss to No. 14 Wisconsin on Wednesday by making big plays down the stretch and dealing Minnesota (17-11, 6-10) a devastating blow to its NCAA Tournament at-large hopes. The Golden Gophers lost for the seventh time in their last eight games.

Trailing, 62-61, with 1:39 remaining, Novak hit a long 3-pointer to give the Wolverines the lead for good. He iced the game on the ensuing possession, stealing a pass under his own basket, throwing it the length of the court to Darius Morris, who converted a layup and three-point play to give Michigan a 67-62 lead with 48 seconds left.

Morris added 17 points and seven assists for Michigan, which started fast by making its first six 3-pointers and nine in the first half. The Wolverines finished with 12 treys, five from Hardaway Jr. and four from Stu Douglass, who finished with 12 points.

Trevor Mbakwe and Blake Hoffarber paced Minnesota with 18 points apiece as the Gophers suffered their second straight home meltdown. On Wednesday, Michigan State rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final four minutes to knock of Minnesota.
