Jimmer Fredette scored 26 points to help No. 9 Brigham Young to a 69-62 victory over host Wyoming on Wednesday.

Brandon Davies had 20 points and nine rebounds as the Cougars (21-2, 7-1 Mountain West) held off a strong effort by the struggling Cowboys.

Desmar Jackson scored 23 points before fouling out for Wyoming (8-14, 1-7).

Fredette made just 7-of-21 attempts but drove for a key three-point play with 47.6 seconds left after the Cowboys had trimmed BYU’s lead to one.

Wyoming trailed by 10 points with under six minutes remaining before scoring eight straight points to pull within 61-59 on Djibril Thiam’s basket with 2:52 remaining. Jackson had a chance to tie the score with 2:05 left but made just one of two free throws.

Francisco Cruz scored 16 points and Thiam tallied 14 for the Cowboys.

Fredette, the nation’s leading scorer, entered the contest with a 27.6 average. He has scored 20 or more points 19 times. Jackson Emery added 12 points for BYU, which made just 5-of-25 3-point attempts.
