Harrison Barnes hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 11 seconds left as North Carolina shaded host Miami 74-71 Wednesday night.

With the score tied 71-71, Barnes took a feed from Kendall Marshall and buried a jumper from beyond the arc as the Tar Heels (14-5, 4-1 ACC) overcame an early 14-point deficit to win for the seventh time in eight games. The Hurricanes (12-8, 1-5) had a chance to draw even, but Reggie Johnson missed a 3-point attempt with four seconds remaining.

Barnes' big shot capped an otherwise uninspiring performance from the freshman forward, who shot just 4-for-11 from the field and grabbed three rebounds, below his season average of 5.3.

Dexter Strickland added 12 points in what was a balanced attack by North Carolina, which had eight different players record at least six points.

Durand Scott had 18 points to lead Miami, which fell to 11-3 at home this season. Malcolm Grant added 17 points while Adrian Thomas and Garrius Adams chipped in with 12 apiece. Johnson had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Miami burst out to a quick start, with Scott hitting a pair of 3-pointers and Johnson adding six points of his own during a game-opening 18-4 run that spanned nearly seven minutes. The Tar Heels chipped away at the deficit and eventually tied the game 39-39 on a Barnes 3-pointer with 13 seconds left in the first half.

Neither team led by more than four points in the second half, with the lead changing hands seven times before Barnes' game-winning shot.
