JaMychal Green and a relentless defense helped Alabama claim a 57-47 win at home Wednesday against South Carolina.

Green led the Crimson Tide with 20 points and nine rebounds on 7-of-15 shooting. Tony Mitchell added 16 points and 11 rebounds for Alabama (10-6, 2-0 SEC), which won its fifth straight game. The Alabama defense was relentless all game, holding the Gamecocks to 26.8-percent shooting from the field and forcing 19 turnovers.

The Crimson Tide held South Carolina scoreless for nearly five minutes of the second half and used a 7-0 run during that time to take a 44-33 lead with 7:46 left in the second half. South Carolina closed the deficit to six points with less than two minutes remaining, but two quick baskets iced the game for Alabama.

South Carolina (10-5, 1-1) was led by Malik Cooke, who scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman point guard Bruce Ellington was held to 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting.

South Carolina had its two-game winning streak snapped.
