Malcolm Grant drained six 3-pointers and finished with 25 points as Miami (Fla.) beat Rice 73-67 Wednesday in the Holiday Hoops Classic at South Point Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Hurricanes (9-3) picked up their sixth win in the last seven games and are now 2-0 at the Holiday Hoops Classic. Miami will go for the sweep Thursday when it takes on Akron at 3 p.m.

Miami held a 34-28 halftime lead and extended that cushion into the second half, as each team scored 39 points in the final 20 minutes.

Durand Scott finished with 10 points for Miami, which shot 22-of-43 (51.2 percent) from the field and 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from 3-point range. Garrius Adams and Adrian Thomas each scored nine points.

Rice (6-5) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end despite 20-of-25 (80 percent) shooting from the free-throw line. Arsalan Kazemi had 12 free throws and finished with 26 points. Lucas Kuipers and Tamir Jackson added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
