Chris Crawford came off the bench to score 18 points, hitting two critical 3-pointers in overtime, as No. 19 Memphis survived visiting Austin Peay’s upset bid, 70-68, Thursday.

Crawford hit five 3-pointers and Charles Carmouche added 16 points for the Tigers (8-1), who endured a nearly seven-minute scoreless drought yet fought back to force overtime.

Memphis trailed only briefly in overtime. before Crawford put the Tigers ahead with a 3-pointer 59 seconds into the extra period. Crawford sank another 3-pointer with 2:35 left, giving the Tigers a 62-60 lead.

Leading 68-62 with 43 seconds left, the Tigers missed 3-of-6 free throws to give the Governors a chance. Melvin Baker and Justin Blake hit 3-pointers to bring Austin Peay within 69-68. Blake missed a game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds left.

Memphis pulled ahead toward the end of the first half, taking a 24-14 lead on two Antonio Barton free throws with 3:42 left before halftime. But the Tigers would not score again until the 16:45 mark of the second half, a 6:57 drought during which the Governors scored 21 unanswered points to take a 35-24 lead.

Austin Peay (6-6) stretched the advantage to as many as 13 before Memphis rallied. A 17-4 run tied the game at 47-47 on Crawford’s 3-pointer with 8:35 left. Antonio Barton’s jumper with 14 seconds left tied the game at 56-56.

TyShwan Edmondson paced Austin Peay with 22 points.
