BOXSCORE | RECAP

Officials: # Ed Hightower, # Larry Scirotto, # Zelton Steed

Durrell Summers led four players in double figures with 14 points and No. 6 Michigan State rolled to a 74-39 victory over visiting Bowling Green on Saturday.

Keith Appling had 11 points and Draymond Green added 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for Michigan State, which shot 60 percent in the second half (18-of-30) en route to its 51st straight non-conference win at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State (6-2), which has been to six Final Fours in the last 12 seasons, rebounded from a hard-fought 84-79 loss to No. 1 Duke earlier this week. That game was part of the early-season gauntlet that Tom Izzo sends his team through each year.

This contest served as a buffer between the Duke game and Tuesday’s matchup with No. 7 Syracuse in the Jimmy V Classic in New York.

It didn’t seem that way early, though, as the Spartans struggled against the Falcons in the first half. Michigan State missed 16 of its first 22 shots and held a slim 25-19 edge after 20 minutes.

But the Spartans found their stroke in the second stanza. After Rider scored the first four points to pull within 25-23, Michigan State responded with a 21-1 run that sealed the win.

The Spartans hit seven of their first nine shots –including five 3-pointers - to open the second half. Appling and Summers each had a pair of 3-pointers during the decisive run, which gave Michigan State a 46-24 lead with 12:47 left.

Scott Thomas (11 points) was the lone player in double figures for the Falcons (1-7), who have lost six straight.
