If the UCLA Bruins were to end the Kansas Jayhawks’ 63-game home winning streak, they were going to have to be perfect.

They nearly were.

Mario Little’s free throw with 0.7 seconds left lifted No. 4 Kansas to a 77-76 win over UCLA Thursday night.

UCLA tied the game with eight seconds to play on a long 3-pointer by Tyler Honeycutt. The Jayhawks raced the ball down the court but lost control heading to the basket. Little picked up the loose ball at the top of the circle and was fouled by Malcom Lee as the buzzer sounded.

The officials went to the replay and determined that there was still time on the clock when the foul occurred and awarded Little two foul shots. He hit the first and missed the second intentionally, leaving UCLA with just a desperation heave to try to win it.

Honeycutt led all scorers with 33 points, including 5 of 6 from 3-point range.

Tayshawn Taylor and Tyrel Reed led the Jayhawks (7-0) with 17 points apiece. Marcus Morris added 16.

UCLA (3-3) answered every Jayhawk run throughout the contest. Kansas led 12-4 in the early moments before the Bruins came back to take a 18-17 lead. Kansas led 42-39 at the half, before UCLA tied it at 64.

The Jayhawks then looked like they put the game away with a 9-2 run to take a 73-66 lead with just over two minutes to play, but UCLA came back to tie the game on Honeycutt’s 3-pointer.

Kansas last lost at home on Feb. 3, 2007, against Texas A&M.
