A balanced effort lifted Rutgers to a 61-45 victory over Miami in a non-conference contest Sunday at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, N.J.

Senior forward Jonathan Mitchell's 12 points and seven rebounds led the way for the Scarlet Knights, who had six players score at least six points or more in a meeting between the Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference.

Miami (2-1) shot 14-of-48 (29.2 percent) from the field, including 5-of-23 from the 3-point line. Sophomore center Reggie Johnson led the Hurricanes with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Scarlet Knights (2-1) held a 24-20 halftime lead and slowly expanded on that lead in the second half. Mike Poole's jumper gave Rutgers a 38-28 cushion with 13:15 remaining. The Hurricanes never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Up next for the Scarlet Knights is a Tuesday home date with Norfolk State (1-2), while the Hurricanes will play host to McNeese State on Wednesday.
