Maurice Creek scored nine of his 19 points during a decisive surge as host Indiana rallied in the second half for a 67-54 victory over Evansville on Sunday afternoon.

Creek finished 4-of-7 from the arc and made all five free-throw attempts and Verdell Jones added 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting for the Hoosiers, who shot 53.3 percent from the floor but missed 13 of 28 free throws.

The Purple Aces led at halftime, 31-25, but Creek scored six consecutive points to put Indiana (4-0) in front, 40-39, with 15:12 remaining. Creek’s outburst began a run of 22 unanswered points that left the Hoosiers with a 56-39 advantage at the 8:30 mark.

Evansville (2-1) made a late push, scoring nine straight to cut a 20-point deficit to 63-52 with 2:58 left, but could not get back within single digits.

Christian Watford finished with 12 points and seven boards for Indiana, which held Evansville to 37.8 percent from the floor.

Colt Ryan paced Evansville with 15 points.
