Bernard James had 15 points and 10 rebounds as Florida State beat Northern Florida 75-55 on Friday in the opener for both teams.

Chris Singleton had 11 points for the Seminoles (1-0), who are coming off their second straight NCAA tournament appearance.

The Seminoles lost 7-1 center Solomon Alibi to the NBA, but the defense should remain stout with the return of Singleton, the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year last season.

Florida State had no problems with the Ospreys (0-1) as they built a commanding 42-25 lead after 20 minutes.

The Seminoles were one of the lowest scoring teams in the nation last season, averaging 60.4 points, but they scored at will against an inferior opponent.

Parker Smith had 16 points for Northern Florida (0-1), who finished seventh in the Atlantic Sun last season.
